---- PROTOTYPE --------- PURPOSE: To create a prototype of an electrical outlet connector to assist individuals with cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and Parkinson`s disease to plug in everyday electrical devices. The concept behind this project is to reduce the stress factors that come from the pushing and pulling required to plug in electrical devices into most standard U.S. and Canadian electrical outlets, which is also an easily assembled, manufacturable device. CUSTOM ADAPTATION PURPOSE: To provide a customized device to keep power cord out of wheelchair wheels for person with quadriplegia. Initial recommendations were that circuits be fitted with an Earth Leakage Protection circuit breaker (ELPCB) or Residual Current Device (RCD) in all cases where main power cables are involved in an occupational setting. DO IT YOURSELF ENTRYPURPOSE: To make bathroom use safer for seniors and individuals with mobility, walking, or balance disabilities. This article, part of the chapter entitled "Bathroom & Washing Up," dicusses ways to provide greater bathroom safety, including using non-slip surfaces in the tub or shower and on the bathroom floor; installing grab bars; ensuring adequate lighting; and having ground-fault-interrupted (GFI) outlets in the bathroom.
